Chelsea points deduction demanded by rivals after financial rules cheated – Wyness
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has suggested Premier League clubs will be furious with Chelsea for “dodging” Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the Premier League will be in a “difficult position” as they take on the Blues’ “high-quality legal resources”.
Chelsea’s financial report for the 2022-23 campaign showed the Londoners were allowed to reduce their PSR losses with the £76million sale of two hotels on the Stamford Bridge site.
The properties were sold to another company owned by club chiefs at Chelsea.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side are expected to need to sell multiple stars before 30 June to comply with PSR rules for the current season – with a potential points deduction the punishment for overspending.
Chelsea rivals to push for points deduction after Boehly ‘dodges’ PSR rules, says Wyness
Wyness suggested the hotel sale was “purely to dodge PSR rules”.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “The Premier League have changed the rules on this recently, so next season they would not be allowed to do something similar.
“In the EFL, it would not be allowed.
“The other clubs, I would think that they are saying that Chelsea are taking a commercial decision purely to dodge the Premier League’s PSR rules.
“This puts the league in another difficult position. They’ll have to take Chelsea on, and they’ll have high-quality legal resources.

“We’re back in these battles fought off the pitch and in the courtroom. It’s just wrong.
“Here we are talking about Chelsea’s hotels being sold, rather than Cole Palmer.”
