‘Chelsea eye new goalkeeper as fresh Robert Sanchez update emerges’

Chelsea have set their sights on a move for a new goalkeeper even though Robert Sanchez maintained 10 clean sheets in the Premier League this term.

Only Arsenal’s David Raya, Nottingham Forest’s Matz Sels, and England duo Jordan Pickford and Dean Henderson kept more clean sheets than Sanchez in the top-flight this season.

The Spain international helped Chelsea seal Champions League qualification by playing his part in a final-day 1-0 victory over Forest on Sunday, 25 May.

Enzo Maresca’s men will now focus on their Conference League final clash with Real Betis on Wednesday, 28 May.

Chelsea could be tempted to sell Sanchez as they eye new goalkeeper

Maresca’s first season in the Chelsea dugout will end with silverware if the Blues can defeat Betis in Poland on Wednesday.

But with the Club World Cup just around the corner and with next season’s Premier League in mind, the West Londoners have set their sights on a new man between the sticks.

Writing in The Guardian [26 May], Jacob Steinberg revealed: “There have been indications that they could try to sign a new goalkeeper.

“Rival clubs believe that Chelsea could be tempted to sell their current No 1, Robert Sánchez.”

Chelsea set their sights on Hugo Ekitike

While Maresca could look for a new goalkeeper this summer, and consequently sell Sanchez, the West London club are also vying to improve their frontline ahead of next season.

Chelsea’s top goal scorer in the Premier League this term was Cole Palmer, who notched 15 goals, even though the former Manchester City man was in poor form for the majority of the second half of the season.

Chelsea have already eyed Ipswich striker Liam Delap, who has been a shining light for an otherwise poor Tractor Boys outfit, who have suffered immediate relegation back to the Championship.

But Maresca is also keen to sign Hugo Ekitike swiftly, and have been impressed by his exploits in the Bundesliga for Eintracht Frankfurt.

The France Under-21 international scored 15 goals and created eight assists in the German top flight this term, and could be ready to perform in the Premier League next season.
