‘Chelsea set for Marc Guehi deal as Crystal Palace eye £50m replacement’

Chelsea mean business in the transfer market as they prepare to return to Europe’s elite competition next season.

The Blues secured Champions League football on the final day of the Premier League season which means that Enzo Maresca‘s side will need to strengthen if they’re to compete with the continent’s best.

The West London side have already secured the signing of Liam Delap from Ipswich Town, while Chelsea also made the decision not to bring Jadon Sancho back to the club on a permanent basis following his loan spell from Manchester United.

A winger will be sought, but the centre of defence is also a key area that Maresca needs to strengthen ahead of the new campaign.

Chelsea are ready to move for a long-standing target

This summer is the perfect time for the Blues to secure a deal to bring back Marc Guehi.

Former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, exclusively told Football Insider that the 24-year-old is among Chelsea’s top targets at centre-back.

With just a year left on his contract, Guehi’s future has not changed at Crystal Palace despite their FA Cup success with the Eagles opening to selling.

It’s believed that Guehi will be allowed to leave Selhurst Park this summer despite Palace having turned down a £70million offer in January.

The wheels are in motion to get the Guehi deal done

Football Insider revealed in February that Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle and Tottenham want Guehi ahead of the summer transfer window.

However it’s the Blues who look best-equipped to make a move happen after sources told Football Insider that they’d accept offers for first-team duo Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi.

Palace are also preparing for his exit with Oliver Glasner’s side confident that they can beat their rivals to sign Ousmane Diamande from Sporting CP.

Guehi is regarded as one of the Premier League’s best central defenders outside of the top six and at 21 years of age he perfectly fits the profile of what Chelsea are looking for.

Having come through the youth academy in west London, the Blues know exactly how good Guehi could be.

Providing that one if their rivals don’t swoop first, Maresca will be hopeful that it’s a deal he can get completed before the big kick-off in August.
