‘Chelsea set to sign goalkeeper in coming days amid major Mike Maignan development’
Chelsea could be in line to add a goalkeeper to their ranks within the next week, after a huge development in their quest for Mike Maignan.
The Blues have had goalkeeping problems for a long period of time now, with no one providing security to the number one position since Thibaut Courtois left the club in 2018.
Last season, Robert Sanchez played the majority of games for Enzo Maresca’s side, but the Spaniard did fall out of favour over February, with Filip Jörgensen given a run in the team.
Name | Games | Clean Sheets |
Sanchez | 32 | 10 |
Jörgensen | 6 | 1 |
Chelsea secured Champions League football with a fourth-place finish in the Premier League, as well as beating Real Betis 4-1 to win the Conference League final.

Maignan wants Chelsea move
Reports that Chelsea are interested in Maignan emerged on Tuesday (3 June), as Maresca looks to make a switch in his goalkeeper department.
However, despite talks only just beginning, it seems as if a deal could be completed within the next few days.
According to Sky Sports chief football reporter Kaveh Solhekol, if Chelsea are to sign a new goalkeeper in the summer transfer window, then it is likely that it will be before they leave for the Club World Cup next week.
Solhekol added that Maignan has now told AC Milan that he wants to leave, and that Chelsea is his preferred destination.
The 29-year-old’s contract runs out in 12 months time and he will not sign a new deal with the Italian club.
Chelsea move for Gittens
Chelsea have already confirmed the signing of Liam Delap from Ipswich, after the Blues triggered his £30million release clause.
However, even if they do bring in Maignan, the incomings are unlikely to stop there, as Maresca looks to strengthen his attack further.
After deciding against making Jadon Sancho’s loan deal permanent, Chelsea are looking at Jamie Gittens of Borussia Dortmund.
The winger made 32 appearances in the Bundesliga for Niko Kovac’s side last season, scoring eight goals and picking up three assists.
The Blues are once again splashing the cash, in an attempt to close the gap to Premier League champions Liverpool.
