Chelsea should count themselves lucky after source’s Anthony Gordon reveal – pundit
Alan Hutton has claimed Chelsea should count themselves lucky after failing to sign Everton winger Anthony Gordon.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa right-back suggested it is best for all parties that the 21-year-old remained at Goodison Park.
Last Sunday (28 August), sources told this site that the Blues submitted a bid of £25million plus Conor Gallagher and Armado Broja in exchange for the winger.
According to Sky Sports (25 August), Thomas Tuchel’s side were said to be willing to pay up to £60million for Gordon.
He currently has three years left on his contract at Goodison Park.
The forward was in the starting lineup for Frank Lampard’s side in a 0-0 draw with Liverpool on Saturday (3 September).
When asked if missing out on the youngster was a big blow to Chelsea, Hutton told Football Insider: “I always thought, the players that Chelsea have, especially wingers, they’ve got so many.
“They’ve got [Hakim] Ziyech, [Christian] Pulisic, players who aren’t really playing, that are just sitting there waiting.
“Gordon I think is a great player, but he only burst onto the scene last season. His goals and assists aren’t great, he’s got the potential to up those numbers. His energy, his enthusiasm for the game, there’s a lot of positives there.

“At this moment in time I just don’t think that’s what Chelsea needed to be spending £60m on. That’s no slight on Anthony Gordon, he’s a fantastic player and he’ll only get better.
“Staying where he is at this moment in time, he’s only going to get better.“
