Expert issues three-year N'Golo Kante claim after Chelsea latest

Chelsea star N’Golo Kante has suffered with the same knee injury since 2019.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Kante, 31, spent five spells on the sidelines in 2021-22 through illness or injury.

The World Cup winner has now picked up a new knee problem while away on international duty with France.

As relayed by last Saturday (11 June), the midfielder has withdrawn from the squad and returned to West London.

Dinnery hypothesised that his latest setback is the same issue he has been struggling with for over three years.

“You can really pinpoint the problems going back to the end of 2019,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“He picked up a knee problem in the Europa League. Up until that point, he was a virtual ever-present since he came into the professional game. He coud be relied on for around 97 per cent of any given season. He was a machine.

“Then, all of a sudden, he was patched up for that final, put his body on the line, and that took several months to get over. He has constantly been playing catch-up since.

“There have been a couple of time-loss knee injuries since. Nothing major. I don’t think there is anything massively worrisome here, but it’s certainly something they need to be aware of.

“He is another player who was hampered and hindered by the Euros. A lot of these guys need to get some rest and come back fully refreshed in the hope they can come through that pre-season programme.”

Kante played 43 times in total across 2021-22.

Those appearances yielded two goals and five assists.
