Chelsea striker transfers: ‘Extraordinary’ Osimhen and Nkunku update

Chelsea will only pursue Victor Osimhen or any other striker if January unless an “extraordinary” offer for Christopher Nkunku forces them to reassess their position, according to The Athletic.

Despite ongoing links to the Nigerian star, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray, the Blues have no plans to buy a forward this winter. The club is content with the current squad following a busy summer transfer window and intends to stick with what they have for the remainder of the season.

The London club’s forwards Nicolas Jackson and Nkunku have been in great form this season, scoring a combined 18 goals between them in all competitions.

Frenchman Nkunku is believed to be unsettled as he is forced to make do with a place in the cup XI, but Enzo Maresca has ruled out letting him go.

However, the only scenario in which Chelsea might reassess their stance is if an “extraordinary” offer comes in which the club can’t refuse.

Furthermore, any significant injuries to someone like Jackson could force Chelsea to consider short-term options, but for now, the focus remains on the summer for potential striker reinforcements.

Victor Osimhen great for Chelsea if Christopher Nkunku departs

Football Insider opinion

With his blistering pace, aerial prowess, and physicality, the Nigerian forward has the perfect attributes to thrive in the Premier League.

This season, he has already scored eight goals across all competitions for Galatasaray, reviving the form that saw him score 26 goals in 32 appearances during the 2022-23 title-winning Serie A campaign for Napoli. His performances have caught the eye of many, and Chelsea would be wise to pursue him.

The 25-year-old striker has already shown he can handle the pressure of English football this season, scoring twice against Tottenham in the Europa League, a reminder of the damage he could do to English opposition.

His ability to finish from a variety of positions—whether it’s his head or feet—would make him an immediate threat in England’s top flight, and physical attributes would give Maresca a different dimension up front.

Pairing him with Jackson, who has already demonstrated great potential this season, would create a dangerous two-pronged attack, with Osimhen offering power and directness while Jackson can provide movement and finesse.

Additionally, if Nkunku were to leave Chelsea, Osimhen would be an ideal replacement.

Nkunku’s creativity and playmaking ability have been integral to Chelsea’s attack in the Europa Conference League this season, but Osimhen’s ability to hold the ball, make intelligent runs, and finish chances would provide a similar level of offensive impact.
