‘Chelsea throw Man United transfer window into chaos over Jadon Sancho’

Man United face a mad dash to stop their transfer window from capitulating after Chelsea decided against signing Jadon Sancho permanently.

The Blues will pay a penalty fee of £5million to send the former Borussia Dortmund winger back to Manchester, thereby avoiding paying £25m to sign the winger permanently, according to The Athletic.

Enzo Maresca appreciated Sancho’s professionalism and dedication on the training pitch, but the two parties were not able to reach an agreement on personal terms for him to fit into their wage structure.

The 25-year-old will return to his parent club instead, and as a consequence, United’s entire transfer window may now been thrown into jeopardy.

Man United no longer guaranteed £25m from Jadon Sancho sale to Chelsea

United lost the Europa League final to Tottenham and failed to qualify for the Champions League, majorly impacting their precarious financial position.

The Red Devils missed out on at least £100m [BBC Sport] by not making it to Europe’s most prestigious club competition.

They require a complete overhaul of their squad to not only improve results, but also add players who are more suited to Ruben Amorim’s tactical set-up.

United already completed the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5m [Sky Sports], and are looking to do a deal with Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo, after he indicated his preference to move to Old Trafford.

What’s more, Bruno Fernandes looked like he may join Al-Hilal, allowing Amorim’s side the financing required to rebuild this summer, but the star captain has now rejected a move to Saudi Arabia in a boost to the playing squad but wiping out up to £100m in transfer income.

And without the £25m they were set to receive for Sancho’s move to West London, coupled with the burden of his £300,000-a-week wages [Sky Sports], the Red Devils may struggle to continue doing business until a solution is found.

With the 25-year-old’s form solid but unremarkable for Chelsea this season, United will likely struggle to convince suitors to match the fee they were due to receive from the West London club.

Alternatively, Amorim could choose to keep Sancho, but it would seem unlikely given his tactical set-up does not cater well to the winger’s skillset as a wide player.

Man United may have to delay transfer business until sales are confirmed

Sancho is not the only United player on big wages that Amorim is unlikely to want to keep.

Marcus Rashford spent the second half of the season on loan at Aston Villa, but the Midlands club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League has thrown a permanent deal into doubt.

Antony, meanwhile, has enjoyed something of a renaissance in his career whilst on loan at Real Betis, but there are no concrete plans to extend his stay in Seville, and United will face a hefty loss from the £81.3m [BBC Sport] the club shelled out for the winger, if or when they sell the Brazilian.

Consequently, the Red Devils may now have to delay any further purchases this summer until they can find a solution for the trio.

This will be a devastating blow to Amorim, who will no doubt have been keen to have new signings in the building quickly in order to work on the issues that led to United finishing 15th in the Premier League last season.
