Chelsea to ‘find new home for Ben Chilwell’

Chelsea are set to find a new home for Ben Chilwell after he returns from his loan spell at Crystal Palace, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the 28-year-old will be moved on permanently ahead of next season.

The former Champions League winner made the move to Selhurst Park on a loan deal until the end of the season during the January transfer window as he attempts to get his career back on track.

It has been a season to forget so far for Chilwell, but he is set to be given more regular playing time for the Eagles in the second half of the campaign.

Ben Chilwell has been in the Chelsea bomb squad

The experienced left-back joined Chelsea from Leicester City in 2020 for £45million on a five-year contract and became a regular at Stamford Bridge.

Chilwell has gone on to play 107 games across all competitions, scoring nine goals and providing 12 assists for the Blues as he was even named vice-captain under Mauricio Pochettino.

However, Enzo Maresca has barely used him this season as the England international ended up being in his bomb squad.

Chilwell played just 45 minutes of football throughout the first half of the campaign and spent a period of time training away from the first team.

Ben Chilwell wants an England return

Well-placed sources have informed Football Insider that Chilwell is looking to impress the new England manager Thomas Tuchel in a bid to get his place back in the international squad.

Chilwell has lots of experience playing under the Three Lions boss from their time together at Chelsea, but he will need regular game time at club level to come under consideration.

The full-back was left out of Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad and will now be looking to secure a move away from Stamford Bridge to push back into the England setup.

It is expected that Chilwell and Chelsea’s other loanees will be moved on permanently in the summer transfer window as the Blues want to make way in the team for new signings.
