Finance guru: Chelsea to hire the 'best in the business'
Todd Boehly is ready to appoint the perfect mix of business and sporting minds to senior positions behind the scenes at Chelsea.
That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the new owner’s strategic plans at Stanford Bridge.
Bruce Buck has been removed as chairman of the West London club, while influential director Marina Granovskia and head of performance Petr Cech have also vacated their positions.
Chelsea confirmed last Wednesday (22 June) that Boehly himself would step in as chairman in a hands-on role.
Plumley claims that the 48-year-old will surround himself with the “best in the business” as he gets to grip with his new position.
“I don’t think this will be an issue as it isn’t unusual for an owner to also act as chairman,” the told Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football’s Insider’s Adam Williams.

“You do want some football expertise at boardroom level but you also want some business acumen there as well. I’m in favour of a combination of both.
“If he is going to be chairman, he’ll be looking at who’s around him at boardroom level. I’d expect it to be a mixture of sporting intel and non-sporting intel.
“It has to be the best in the business in both departments if you want that perfect mix.”
Boehly’s sporting background is in Major League Baseball.
He owns a 20 per cent stake in the LA Dodgers
