‘Chelsea to make their money back on Jadon Sancho after deal agreed’

Jadon Sancho could be offloaded straight away by Chelsea if and when his permanent transfer from Manchester United is finalised.

That’s according to former United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains well-connected in the game, and exclusively told Football Insider that Sancho will never be a first-choice for the Blues.

Sancho’s season-long loan spell at Stamford Bridge – which includes an obligation to buy which Chelsea are desperately trying to get out of – certainly hasn’t gone to plan, with just two goals in 28 appearances.

Chelsea are currently obligated to pay £20million at season’s end for Sancho as well as a further £5m in potential add-ons, but the 24-year-old’s performances have left the Blues hoping they can cut ties.

With a further £5m penalty clause set to be incurred if Chelsea do pull out of the deal to sign Sancho permanently, Todd Boehly and Enzo Maresca could now urge the club to go down a different route.

Sancho’s signing on a loan-to-buy deal last summer hasn’t helped Chelsea to shake the reputation that they take a scattergun approach to transfers, with little due diligence done amid huge financial outlays.

With Noni Madueke and Pedro Neto ahead of Sancho in the pecking order when fit, Christopher Nkunku and Tyrique George also in the squad, the England wideman’s future looks bleak at Stamford Bridge.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, belives the Blues will be looking to rectify their latest mistake.

“They’ve got [Madueke] who’s injured at the moment, they’ve got [Neto]. And then there’s Sancho – they have to decide, ‘who are we keeping out of this lot?”, Brown told Football Insider.

“Sancho doesn’t seem to play that regularly, wherever he goes – apart from Germany – he’s never a consistent feature in the team, is he? He’s always a ‘might be’, who comes on and does a little bit.

“If he goes back to Manchester United, I can’t see that working after what happened before.

“If Manchester United get some money for him – if Chelsea are committed to that – then I could see Chelsea looking to sell, and get the money back that they paid [to] Manchester United.

“But who that [team] is who wants to take him? I don’t know. There’ll be one or two clubs, I would’ve thought, but it’s whether or not he wants to go.”

Chelsea will struggle to complete ideal Sancho transfer

Chelsea’s transfer spending since Boehly’s takeover has implied that they’re one of few clubs with a bottomless budget, something not afforded to the majority of their opponents in England or Europe.

With the Blues trying and failing to get out of paying up to £25m for Sancho, there’s therefore very little evidence to suggest any other club – let alone a lesser-monied one – will stump up such a transfer fee.

As a result, and with Sancho’s repuation having taken a huge hit during his time at Old Trafford, any attempt by Chelsea to essentially ‘flip’ a £25m fee this summer will be much easier said than done.
