‘Chelsea to negotiate new deal for English ace as transfer enquiries pour in’

Chelsea are putting plans in place to secure both the short and long-term future of one of their goalkeepers.

The position between the posts has been a major talking at Stamford Bridge across the course of this season.

First-choice Robert Sanchez has come under fire from Chelsea fans following a number of costly errors that have raised questions about his suitably for the role.

However, Filip Jorgensen has also made mistakes for Enzo Maresca’s side when he stepped into the role on occasion.

As a result, a new goalkeeper looks like being a priority for the club when transfer window opens again at the end of the campaign.

Indeed, it has been suggested that Chelsea could look to hijack a move by Newcastle for James Trafford from Championship promotion winners Burnley.

Teddy Sharman-Lowe set for fresh move

While all that is going on, the Stamford Bridge outfit are also putting plans in place for one of their young goalkeepers, in the form of Teddy Sharman-Lowe.

The England Under-21 international is yet to make his senior debut for Chelsea, but has spent this season out on loan at Doncaster Rovers, helping them win promotion from League Two.

His form is now attracting plenty of interest from elsewhere, with a report from The Mail stating that a number of clubs across the EFL are making enquiries about his availability for the 2025/26 campaign, including from the Championship.

Sharman-Lowe’s current contract at Stamford Bridge is due to expire at the end of this season, although there is an option to extend his deal by a further 12 months as part of the one-year extension he signed last summer.

This update states that Chelsea are expected to negotiate over a new longer-term deal for the goalkeeper this summer, before allowing him to go out on loan for next season.

Chelsea goalkeeper plan makes sense

Football Insider Verdict

It does look as though the decision makes at Stamford Bridge have found the right balance when it comes to their plans for Sharman-Lowe.

Given he has spent this season playing in League Two, the step up to Maresca‘s first-team now is undoubtedly going to be too big of one to make.

A loan that allows him to test himself at the next level therefore makes sense, and will move the goalkeeper closer to making his Chelsea debut.

Indeed, with his contract running out the Blues won’t want to risk missing out on the benefits of such a potential talent before they have benefitted from them at Stamford Bridge.

Consequently it is a sensible move to secure a new contract for Sharman-Lowe that protects them when it comes to his future while he is out on loan.

With that in mind Chelsea can look forward to another option between the posts in the years to come, who they will hope is more solid than some of those currently at their disposal.
