‘Chelsea to sack Enzo Maresca after Reece James update’ – Fans furious

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca will get himself sacked after recent comments about Reece James’ future, fans insist.

The club captain made his long-awaited return from a recurring injury during the FA Cup clash against Morecambe, much to the delight of supporters.

However, with the rise of young talent Josh Acheampong and limited appearances this season, speculation about the England international’s future has intensified.

When questioned in his latest press conference, Maresca shared his stance, stating he’s “not a fan” of right-backs making constant runs up and down the flanks.

He said [via Football London]: “I am not a fan of a full-back up and down. The full-backs that we use, we don’t use them up and down. The only game we did was the Palace one. I am not a fan of full-backs up and down.

“He can play everywhere. Reece is playing in four or five different positions. Talk about position, for me, football today you have to be a football player and play in different positions”.

Chelsea fans aren’t happy with the way Reece James is being utilised

The 25-year-old James has endured a difficult season, featuring in just four Premier League matches and playing only 241 minutes before the FA Cup tie.

This term alone, he has missed 21 matches under Maresca, adding to the 38 games he was unavailable for last year [TransferMarkt].

To address the risk of further injuries, the club put contingency plans in place. Malo Gusto and Acheampong have stepped up in his absence, with the latter earning high praise from pundits like Paul Merson for his performances.

Despite this, Chelsea fans remain deeply attached to their captain. Seeing him deployed in unfamiliar roles, such as centre-back, and not attacking the right flank as expected, has left many frustrated.

Maresca’s recent comments have only added to the discontent. One fan remarked that the manager will “lose the support of the fanbase” with such “silly statements”. Another expressed growing concern, saying they trust him “less and less”, with loyalty seemingly far greater to the injury-blighted defender than the new manager.
