Chelsea ‘to sign Mathis Eboue’ – ‘tapping-up checks in progress’
Chelsea are in the process of completing the signing of 15-year-old Mathis Eboue from Watford, The Daily Mail have reported.
The “hugely-promising” young attacker is the son of former Arsenal full-back Emmanuel Eboue and has been impressing for the Hornets.
He has already played for the Championship club’s Under-21s side, and has been capped and scored for England at Under 16s level as well.
Chelsea are now said to be in talks with Watford over compensation for Eboue. The deal is undergoing checks to ensure it complies with the Premier League’s Youth Development Rules.
The five-step process is applied to any deal where compensation is involved, and will include talks with the player’s guardians and both clubs, to prevent any issues around tapping up of a young player.
Overall, the process of completing those checks is expected to take around three weeks.

If confirmed, this move will see yet another young talent locked in at Stamford Bridge for the forseeable future.
Already this year, the Blues have swooped for the likes of Zak Sturge and Shumaria Mhueka from the academy ranks at Brighton to boost their youth options.
With Eboue seemingly now on the way too, there is plenty of young talent that Chelsea can call on in the near future.
That does seem to fit in with the general youthfulness of the squad Enzo Maresca is using at senior level, further reinforcing the direction the club is going in.

Given the Watford youngster is already making rapid progress with the level he is playing at, mean he too looks to have a bright future for the Blues to benefit from.
The fact that his dad is something of an icon at local rivals Arsenal, adds an interesting subplot, and potential sense of satisfaction for those at Stamford Bridge as well.
With that in mind, this could prove to be an exciting deal for Chelsea, when looking ahead to the future.
