Chelsea told to bin Cesar Azpilicueta – Agbonlahor

Chelsea will need to sacrifice Cesar Azpilicueta’s leadership for more quality in the squad.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has claimed that the Blues should look for new leaders in the team and the transfer market.

According to the Sun Chelsea are willing to listen to offers for Azpilicueta as the summer clearout continues, with Mauricio Pochettino willing to let their captain leave for a nominal fee or even for nothing as a thank you for the defender’s years of service.

Azpilicueta, 33, has been with Chelsea since 2012 and won every trophy possible with them in the 11 years he has been at the club.

He still has one year left on his contract but faces even stiffer competition for his first team place ahead of the next season.

With a potential exit on the cards, Agbonlahor believes it would be the right time for Chelsea to move on from the Spaniard in order find new leaders.”

“New managers at clubs will want to create new leaders,” He told Football Insider.

“When players get to the same age as Azpilicueta, they don’t want him to be a third-choice option.

“You need a better option, and it is the right time to move Azpilicueta on.

“If Reece James gets injured you need a better option, so it makes sense to make new leaders.

“The question should be asked of Enzo Fernandes, or even Moises Caicedo when joins the club to be a leader.”
