Chelsea told to block Christian Pulisic exit after new talks – pundit

Noel Whelan has insisted Chelsea will block any approaches from Premier League clubs for disgruntled winger Christian Pulisic.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Blues “hold the keys” to the 23-year-old’s future and would likely prefer he move overseas.

According to The Athletic (17 August), Man United are considering a loan move for United States captain Pulisic – with Chelsea willing to listen to offers.

Newcastle

Newcastle, Juventus, and Atletico Madrid have also made approaches for the former Borussia Dortmund winger – who cost a reported £58million in 2019.

Pulisic is said to be “frustrated” after starting just 21 games across all competitions for Chelsea last term.

He has notched 25 goals and 19 assists since making the move to Stamford Bridge.

Whelan insisted there will be a “queue” of overseas suitors waiting to take Pulisic on a temporary basis.

He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “If Pulisic is going anywhere, I don’t think he’ll be going to Man United – or any other Premier League club.

“Chelsea would much prefer him to go abroad, I’m sure. And there’ll be a queue of suitors waiting to take him.

“Look, Man United are linked with a lot of players. They’re desperate after how they’ve started the season.

“But Chelsea hold the keys. They’ll be pushing him to go abroad – and I think that’s where he will end up.”

Tottenham

Pulisic is out of contract at Stamford Bridge in June 2025.

He won the Champions League with the Blues in 2021 but has never held down a regular starting berth at the club.
