Chelsea told to pull plug on deal and sign ‘proven’ star who’ll make ‘big difference’
Chelsea do not need to add another young talent to their squad and should be focused on signing experienced players.
That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, amid Chelsea’s interest in Jeremy Jacquet.
Liverpool are also pursuing Jacquet, with Rennes demanding at least £50million for the 20-year-old defender.
Chelsea could sell Trevoh Chalobah in order to sign Jacquet, with the club needing to balance the books if they were to add the Frenchman to their squad.
Chelsea following wrong transfer plan
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Chelsea should be looking at signing “serious players with experience.”
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks the club’s current model will not make them successful.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think they don’t need another young centre-back. There are already enough in that position of young, talented players, at that level in the defence.
“Look, I think experience is what is needed, and I think it would make a big difference. The fans can see it a mile away, all the pundits have said so, and I totally agree. A couple of serious players with experience would make a big difference to that Chelsea team and knit it together and that’s what they should be looking at.
“But they believe in this long-term business model, and as I they’re following it slavishly, and I don’t think it’s going to lead to any short or medium-term success.”

Chelsea sanction Axel Disasi sale
Chelsea will also allow centre-back Axel Disasi to leave the club, with the 27-year-old having not played a minute of first-team football this season.
Leeds and Crystal Palace are both interested in Disasi, whose situation at Chelsea will not change under Liam Rosenior.
Disasi spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, but he only made 10 appearances under Unai Emery, in an unsuccessful spell.
