Chelsea told to sign Kai Havertz replacement after what pundit has just seen – ‘they have to spend big…’
Frank McAvennie has urged Chelsea to replace Kai Havertz in the summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker insisted the Blues need to sign a new number nine at the end of the season.
The Blues have suffered a poor run of form under new manager Graham Potter and are currently tenth in the Premier League table.
Potter’s side have recorded just two league wins in 2023 and have struggled for goals in recent games.
Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang joined Stamford Bridge from Barcelona in the summer but has scored just three goals in 18 appearances for the London club.
Kai Havertz has featured up front for the Blues in recent games, including the 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday (7 March) that secured their spot in the quarter-finals.
But McAvennie insisted they need a better option up front.
“Chelsea are going to spend in the summer,” he told Football Insider.
“They need to get rid of some of the players first but I would imagine they will be spending.
“None of the players are Potter’s players so he will want to get his own players in.

“They need a number nine. I do not care what people say Havertz is not a centre-forward, not of the quality that Chelsea need, he is a makeshift centre-forward as far as I am concerned.
“All the other clubs are going to spend big, so they will have to spend big.“
In other news, according to sources, Todd Boehly is ‘huge admirer’ of Frenkie de Jong as Chelsea make him priority signing.
