Chelsea’s chance of sealing sensational Marc Guehi return now revealed
Marc Guehi’s Crystal Palace future continues to be a major talking point ahead of the January transfer window.
Guehi saw his proposed move to Liverpool collapse on transfer deadline day after Oliver Glasner pulled the plug on a deal.
The 25-year-old has since acted with the utmost professionalism as captain, arguably acknowledging that a move to a bigger club is around the corner.
Guehi sees his Crystal Palace contract expire in 2026, and that has alerted some of Europe’s powerhouses, who can agree a pre-contract agreement with the defender in January.
Although Football Insider understands that Guehi is settled at Palace, he does have unfinished business in another part of London.

Chelsea are aware of Marc Guehi’s quality
Chelsea have been filled with transfer regret on numerous occasions, including the time they sold Guehi to Palace for just £18million in 2021.
The Blues did wish to include a buy-back clause for the centre-back, although the clubs eventually settled on a matching rights arrangement, allowing them the opportunity to equal any future bid for Guehi, alongside a sell-on clause, reportedly worth a substantial 20%.
Football Insider revealed on September 17 that Chelsea are interested in re-signing Guehi, and now, BBC Sport journalist Nizaar Kinsella has revealed their chance of landing him ahead of some massive clubs.
“We know the hierarchy at Chelsea is aware of his qualities. However, I doubt injuries will factor in at this stage – given Trevoh Chalobah, Wesley Fofana and Tosin Adarabioyo are due back after the international break,” Kinsella wrote in his Q&A column.
“It would then be a case of whether Chelsea’s project appeals to Guehi, if they make an offer and whether he is the profile needed compared with others already on the books. I am not expecting to hear anything on this soon.”
Bayern Munich and Barcelona have shown an interest in Guehi recently, with Chelsea facing strong competition for his signature if they make a move.
What Guehi said after leaving Chelsea
When Guehi was at Chelsea, he wasn’t guaranteed first-team football, seeing a move to Palace as a chance to cement himself as a solid Premier League defender.

2.1 tackles per game |

He’s since blossomed into a leader both on and off the pitch, with his defensive and ball-playing talents speaking for themselves.
Guehi was rewarded for making the ‘hard’ choice of leaving a club he spent 14 years at, as his development has since skyrocketed.
“It hurt a lot just because I was there for such a long time,” Guehi told Sky Sports about leaving Chelsea.
“It’s such a different feeling leaving there and not going back to where you’ve been for so long. But in order to grow, sometimes you have to take the hard choice and take the hard path sometimes.”
Unsurprisingly, most Chelsea fans would welcome Guehi back with open arms, but they may have missed the boat to sign him.
