Chelsea’s likely points deduction revealed – ‘they’ll get it in the neck’
Chelsea could face a points deduction after controversy around their 2012 deal for Eden Hazard – with Roman Abramovich accused of making an illegal secret payment.
The Times reported on 24 April that Man United missed out on signing Hazard after they refused to pay his agent, John Bico, a multi-million-pound payment – which would have breached the Premier League and Uefa’s rules.
A Premier League investigation is continuing into allegations an offshore company belonging to Abramovich made a £6million payment to Bico in 2013.
Hazard scored 110 goals for Chelsea and won two league titles with the club before joining Real Madrid in 2019.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has suggested how many points Chelsea could be docked if they are found to have breached the rules.

Chelsea could be docked four points for next season, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness has claimed Chelsea are likely to be deducted four points in time for the 2025-26 campaign.
The Blues currently sit fifth in the Premier League as they bid to play Champions League football next season.
Position | Team | Played | Points | GD |
3 | Newcastle United | 34 | 62 | 21 |
4 | Man City | 34 | 61 | 23 |
5 | Chelsea | 34 | 60 | 19 |
6 | Nottingham Forest | 34 | 60 | 12 |
7 | Aston Villa | 34 | 57 | 5 |
Wyness insisted Chelsea will get recognition for “self-reporting” the rule breaches when Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital did their takeover due diligence.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “If they’re going to dock points from other clubs for PSR breaches, then I think Chelsea are going to get it in the neck this time.
“I do think there will be a financial penalty, but also a points deduction.
“It could be something like four points for next season.
“I don’t know when this could be resolved, but I expect it to be resolved before next season begins.
“I think they’re looking at a deduction. While it seems unfair that new owners would be hit with this, it’s the company who have to be hit with a sanction.
“They will have to face up to it. I hope that this is all the skeletons out of the closet, but we just don’t know what Roman has been up to.
“It’ll be around four points. Chelsea will get recognition for being the ones to self-report it – that’s why I don’t think it’ll be anything bigger.”

Chelsea’s former chief steps down
Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (23 April) that Chelsea have confirmed former chief executive Chris Jurasek has stepped down from his role as a director.
A Companies House submission has revealed Jurasek’s position has now been officially terminated at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea confirmed last September Jurasek had been replaced by Jason Gannon, who was promoted to president and chief operating officer.
