Chris Rigg to quit Sunderland for ‘bigger club than Wolves’

Chris Rigg is expected to quit Sunderland for a “bigger” club than Wolves despite their interest in the teenager, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that there will be “bigger fish” for Rigg to consider.

The 17-year-old has established himself as a key player in Sunderland’s starting lineup this season in the Championship, having featured in all but one of the Black Cats’ league games.

Rigg won the Young Player of the Month award in September and has quickly caught the attention of various Premier League outfits, including Wolves.

Football Insider revealed that Crystal Palace have set their sights on signing Rigg as the club is looking to pick up the best young talents in the Championship at the moment.

The Eagles want to bolster their squad with younger players with an eye on long-term success and potentially making a profit by selling them at a later date.

Wolves will face competition to try sign Chris Rigg

Football Insider also revealed Man United have sent scouts to watch the young midfielder while Chelsea and Real Madrid have been monitoring his progress.

The fact that several elite clubs across Europe are interested in Rigg is going to make this a difficult challenge for Wolves in their bid to sign him.

That is especially true considering Wolves’ position in the Premier League, with the Midlands giants sitting 19th in the table right now.

Wolves

Rigg’s current club Sunderland could end up replacing Wolves in the English top flight next season as the Black Cats are thriving in the Championship.

Sunderland sit top of the Championship after 15 games, although they are only above Sheffield United via goal difference.
