Chris Sutton: This Celtic squad issue is deeply worrying
By Harvey Byrne
Outspoken pundit and former striker Chris Sutton has admitted that Celtic’s lack of centre-back options is deeply worrying for him.
The Hoops have had an issue in their back line since the beginning of the new campaign with injuries hitting each of Dedryck Boyata, Jozo Simunovic and Erik Sviatchenko, leaving usual midfielder Nir Bitton and full-back Mikael Lustig to fill in, in the centre on occasion.
The Glasgow giants were seemingly looking to bring in 20-year-old Rivaldo Coetzee from Ajax Cape Town, but on Sunday it was confirmed that the youngster’s potential move had fallen through.
Now, Sutton believes Celtic need to go back into the market for a defender before Thursday’s transfer deadline, stating that the issue at the back is of deep concern for him, who still holds the Hoops in his heart.
“They need to make numerous signings,” told Sutton when speaking on BT Sport’s official Twitter page about the remaining days of Celtic’s summer transfer window.

Celtic’s centre-back problems have particularly caused issues in their last two matches with Saturday seeing them held to a 1-1 draw at Parkhead following a midweek Champions League qualifying 4-3 defeat in Kazakhstan against FC Astana.
They will be hoping to rectify those problems in the next few days with the Hoops’ next fixture coming against Hamilton on September 8 after the international break.
