Chris Sutton – Celtic have missed out big time by failing to pull off this signing
By Harry Sykes
Chris Sutton has claimed that Patrick Roberts will be a “big miss” for Celtic this season.
The pundit and former Hoops striker responded to criticism of manager Brendan Rodgers on Twitter in the wake of the club’s goalless draw in their Champions League qualification home leg on Wednesday night.
It gives Celtic an uphill battle going into the second leg at Rosenborg next week to reach the group stages of Europe’s premier competition.
Sutton claimed on his personal Twitter account that it is “odd” that Rodgers is being criticised following just “one poor performance” and insisted the club’s failure to permanently sign Roberts is a “big miss”.
The 20-year-old wide man is back at parent club Manchester City following an 18-month loan spell at Parkhead in which he made a big impression.
Roberts was a key member of the treble winning team last season, scoring 11 goals and supplying 19 assists from 47 matches in all competitions.
He is at City as he tries to prove himself with Pep Guardiola’s star-studded squad, although he could still leave in the current window amid confirmed interest from a vast number of clubs.
In other Celtic transfer news, the Hoops are in advanced talks to sign a big name with a glittering track record in the Premier League.
