Chris Sutton delivers brutal Twitter putdown on Rangers midfielder

By Derek Smithson

Chris Sutton has slammed Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday on Twitter and stated that his side won’t miss him in their European qualifiers.

The 25-year-old midfielder has been omitted from the Gers squad to face Luxembourg minnows Proges Niederkorn on Thursday in the Europa League.

Pedro Caixinha’s side play the first-leg at Ibrox in the first qualifying round of the Europa League and Halliday is one of six first teamers to be left out of the squad.

He is joined by Rob Kiernan, Matt Crooks, Harry Forrester, Michael O’Halloran and Joe Dodoo as players not submitted to UEFA for the game.

Former Rangers winger Gregg Wylde told the Daily Record that he is surprised with Halliday’s absence and feels it is a big gamble.

However, Sutton responded in brutal fashion on social media and stated “not really going off last seasons form”, as cited by his personal Twitter account.

Halliday’s absence has seen his future with the Scottish giants come under question and it’s believed he does not feature in Caixinha’s plans next season.

The Scottish Sun report that the central midfielder is expected to just Azerbaijan Premier League outfit FC Gabala on a season-long loan this summer.

Halliday has been made to train with the Rangers Under-20s team until he can find himself a new club, which looks set to be FC Gabala as he travels for talks on Tuesday.

The Scotsman fell down the pecking order last season following the arrival of Caixinha and the arrival of several new midfielders has seen his place come under further threat.

He made 42 appearances across all competitions last season and scored five goals in return.

In other Rangers news, Lorenzo Amoruso has revealed his delight with Pedro Caixinha’s decision to keep Kenny Miller.
