Chris Sutton has given a hilarious response after Rangers winger Michael O’Halloran was spotted sitting with Celtic fans in the Scottish Cup Final v Motherwell.
O’Halloran, whose father works as a coach with the Hoops, apologised for the incident through his agent, as reported by the Daily Record.
However, that didn’t cut any ice with Sutton, who claimed on his personal Twitter account not to understand why people were so upset about the incident.
“I don’t understand the issue here? Some would say it’s nice to see a Rangers player at a cup final this season….” the former Celtic striker said.
No matter what Sutton says, in all probability it looks like O’Halloran will be looking for a new club in the summer.
Football Insider verdict
Sutton might have been having a laugh at the incident, but it was very naive from O’Halloran to be spotted sitting with the support of your biggest rivals. Even his agent admitted that it was a ‘bad look’, and the winger, who has been a bit-part player in his time at Ibrox, would be better off moving to another club in the summer if he wants to get his career on track. It would be one thing if it was a player who didn’t come from Scotland sitting amongst the Hoops fans, but the fact that O’Halloran knows all about the Old Firm rivals shows that it was a lapse in judgement. In his time playing in the East End of Glasgow, the chances of Sutton ever sitting amongst Gers fans would have to be less than zero, and he knows this and is just having a gentle jibe at the situation, which O’Halloran will be hoping is quickly forgotten about as he hopes to get his career back on track.
In other Celtic news, the Hoops must avoid a bidding war for this player
