Chris Sutton destroys dishonest Rangers chiefs, lays into Mark Warburton

By Matt Farr

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has attacked Rangers for the second time in the space of a week and claimed manager Mark Warburton is unlikely to be at the helm for much longer.

The ex-striker hit out at the Ibrox outfit following their ‘mauling’ against Hearts on Wednesday night, a miserable performance resulting in a 4-1 defeat.

However, Sutton did not finish there, and delivered his latest scathing verdict of Mark Warburton’s side in his column for the Daily Record on Saturday.

He described Ibrox as a ‘land of broken promises’, taking the opportunity to direct particular criticism the way of Rangers’ chairman Dave King.

He did though, still have plenty left in the tank to question the long-term vision of manager Warburton, hinting that he was doing himself no favours in pursuit of a long-term Rangers deal.

Sutton certainly did not hold back in his criticism of the club, saying: “Good luck when it comes to the Ibrox club selling season tickets for next year because all I can see are broken promises.

“Dave King broke his promise to invest in the team. Warburton has broken his promises he’d have a side that could put up a semblance of a fight with Celtic.

“It’s time the entire club starting showing a bit of honesty because at the moment the vision is clear as mud. That’s if there is a vision.

“There is no long-term plan in place and as it stands the gap with Celtic is going to be even wider next season. Warburton can talk all he likes about development but when you add it all together the only conclusion to come to is he won’t be around Ibrox to see it.”

In many cases, Sutton’s criticism is well-founded. The Scottish Premiership title race has been over for a while now, yet there is still six months left to go in the season.

Rangers are an incredible 25 points behind Celtic in the league, and having been defeated as many as three times by their Old Firm rivals this season, have done little to prevent them from running away with their sixth consecutive league title, and potential domestic treble.
