Chris Sutton delivers verdict on Celtic win v Hamilton, hails attacker as ‘outstanding’

By Derek Smithson

Chris Sutton delivered a glowing verdict on Celtic following their win over Hamilton and was particularly impressed with attacker Patrick Roberts.

The Bhoys recorded a convincing 4-1 away victory over Hamilton on Friday night to move top of the league and pick up some momentum ahead of their Champions League game with Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.

Stuart Armstrong opened the scoring for the visitors, before Scott Sinclair netted a brace during the first-half.

Odsonne Edouard scored a fourth for Brendan Rodgers’ side to mark a dream debut following his summer arrival, while Alex Gogic netted a late consolation.

Roberts got his first minutes since re-signing for Celtic on loan in the summer and lasted 67 minutes.

The winger managed to combine with Edouard for his goal and the fan favourite is set to play another big role in Rodgers’ team moving forward.

Pundit Sutton believed Celtic were in complete control as they cruised to three points and labelled Roberts as “outstanding”.

“Easy street for Celtic 4-1 at Hamilton. Roberts outstanding. Sinclair Sharpe. Edouard off the mark,” Sutton wrote on his personal Twitter account.

Roberts previously enjoyed an 18-month loan spell at Celtic and become an integral part of Rodgers’ team last year in their treble winning season.

The Englishman has returned on another loan from Manchester City and is expected to cement his position in the starting line-up, which could see Jonny Hayes becoming a regular substitute.

He made 60 appearances during his first spell with the Bhoys, scoring 17 goals and supplying 21 assists in return.

The right winger hit the ground running on Friday night with an assist and has already shown how big of an impact he can make in Scottish football.
