Chris Sutton names Rangers duo in his team of the week

By Amir Mir

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has named Rangers duo Martyn Waghorn and Lee Wallace in his team of the week.

BT Sport pundit Sutton recognised their performances for Mark Warburton’s side after the Gers beat Hamilton 2-1 on Friday night at New Douglas Park.

Striker Waghorn netted a brace on either side of the break, first heading in the opening before doubling his sides lead with a close range effort.

Left-back Wallace played the full match during that encounter and assisted Waghorn’s second goal.

Here is Sutton revealing his team of the week from the SPL on his personal Twitter account.

The three points meant Rangers remained in second place on 35 points from 18 games, but they are still 11 behind rivals Celtic, who also have two games in hand.

Waghorn has played 12 league games for Warburton’s side this term, scoring three goals and assisting one. Over the course of the season he has found the net on ten occasions from 17 matches.

By contrast his defensive teammate Wallace has made 18 appearances in the Premiership, scoring once and assisting five times. He has also helped the Glasgow club keep six clean sheets.

Former Premier League player Sutton also named three Celtic players in his team of the week, Eric Sviatchenko, Nir Bitton and Leigh Griffiths.

The trio helped Brendan Rodgers side maintain their unbeaten run in the league, when Griffiths and Bitton were on target to see off Dundee on Saturday.

In other Rangers news, the Gers should buy this Aston Villa record breaker who would help them close the gap on their rivals.
