Chris Sutton shocked as Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers makes ‘staggering’ revelation

Celtic have been urged to offer Brendan Rodgers a new contract after a revelation was made in his pr-match press conference.

Rodgers is entering the final year on his deal at Celtic after rejoining the Scottish champions in 2023 for a second spell in charge.

The former Liverpool boss walked away in his first spell to take a vacant managerial position at Leicester City.

Rodgers could leave Celtic again before the campaign concludes due to the current anger at the board from supporters following a lack of transfer activity.

Celtic risk losing Brendan Rodgers

In his pre-match press conference before Celtic head to Kilmarnock, Rodgers revealed he has not been offered a new contract at the club.

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton was left stunned and called for the matter to be resolved.

“The most staggering thing (well maybe not) out of Brendan Rodgers’ presser is him saying that he hasn’t had a contract offer on the table,” Sutton posted on X.

“How can a guy entering his final year who has won so much (11 trophies) and made progress last season in CL [Champions League] not have a concrete offer?”

Rodgers led Celtic to the knockout stages of the Champions League last season and came close to knocking Bayern Munich out of the competition.

Further uncertainty at Celtic

Celtic fans are planning protests aimed at the board, and stars like Daizen Maeda could leave the club at the next opportunity.

Rodgers is currently poised to leave Celtic too at the end of the season if his contract situation is not resolved.

Brendan Rodgers’ managerial record at Celtic in all competitions across his two spells.

One of the most successful managers in recent history at Celtic, losing a manager of Rodgers’ calibre would put the club back to square one in their ambitions to compete in the Champions League.

Rodgers has not been backed in the transfer market, and the January transfer window may now be crucial in persuading him to stay with more ambition.

Even after the summer Celtic need reinforcements, particularly in attack with the pressure firmly on Kelechi Iheanacho and Maeda to score the bulk of the goals.
