Chris Sutton slams Robbie Savage for his ridiculous Celtic comments

By Amir Mir

Chris Sutton has slammed Robbie Savage for his “ridiculous comments” that Celtic are a “Championship club” and their captain Scott Brown “would not get in the Premier League”.

Scottish Champions Celtic, who are managed by former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, are unbeaten in domestic competitions this season.

They hold an eight point lead ahead of rivals Rangers in the Scottish Premiership, who are second and the Hoops have an impressive three games in hand.

Additionally, they have won 12 out of their 13 games in the SPL and have beaten their Old Firm rivals on two occasions this term.

Rodgers also guided the Glasgow giants to the Scottish League Cup, where they defeated Aberdeen 3-0 at Hampden Park.

Ahead of their fixture with Partick Thistle on Friday night, Sutton pulled no punches when he discussed Savage’s comments about his former club.

“Can we talk about the rubbish Robbie Savage talked the other night,” Sutton told BT Sport. “‘Celtic are a Championship club, Scott Brown wouldn’t get in the Premier League’  I mean what planet is that guy from? Ridiculous comments.”

Despite their domestic success, Rodgers side still finished bottom of their Champions League group.

They recorded three points from their six games in Group C, picking up draws against Manchester City on two occasions and against Borussia Monchengladbach in Germany.

However, they were thumped 7-0 by La Liga giants Barcelona at the Nou Camp, which resulted in them conceding 16 goals in six games – only Legia Warsaw in Group F shipped more.

Midfielder Brown has played a huge part in their domestic success and their participation in Europe.

He has played 28 games in all competitions scoring two goals and providing one assist. The Scotland international has also picked up 11 yellow cards during those games.

In other Celtic news, Chris Sutton believes this player will feel irritated by his lack of game time.
