Wood: This is what Leeds have been working on ahead of clash against Bristol City

Chris Wood has revealed that Leeds are working on carving teams open ahead of their Championship clash against Bristol City.

The Yorkshire giants head into the Elland Road fixture on Tuesday night aiming to arrest a run of two consecutive league defeats.

Leeds lost 2-0 at home to Cardiff on Saturday, which came six days after a 2-1 defeat to promotion rivals Huddersfield in a fiercely contested match.

There has been criticism from some quarters that Leeds have been over-reliant this season for goals from striker Wood, who has struck 18 of the team’s 42 goals in league competition.

The Elland Road spearhead explained that Garry Monk and his coaching staff have been working on the training field on creating more goalscoring opportunities.

“You can’t create that many chances every single game and it’s something we’re working on, trying our best to rectify,” said Wood, as quoted by the BBC Radio Leeds matchday blog (Saturday, 5.47pm).

“We’re all capable of scoring goals and the whole team knows how to take them. We’re working on carving teams open to create more chances. You can’t play great football 46 games of the year – you have to dig it out sometimes.

“Every game is probably a cup final now and it’s just making sure we’re ready.”

It is a reflection of Leeds’ need to spread goals more evenly across the squad that the next highest scorers after Wood are Souleymane Doukara, who has struck five times, and centre-back Kyle Bartley, who has weighed in with four goals.

Playmaker Pablo Hernandez and the team’s other principal centre-back, Pontus Jansson, are the next highest in the scorers’ list with three goals apiece.
