Christian Eriksen to 'definitely' be axed by Man United - 'if I'm honest...', says Agbonlahor
Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Christian Eriksen will “definitely” be axed from the Man United lineup to accommodate the arrival of Mason Mount.
The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 31-year-old “lacks the legs” needed to succeed in Erik ten Hag’s system.
According to Sky Sports (3 July), Mount is undergoing a medical at Man United ahead of his £60million arrival from Chelsea.
It is claimed the England international will sign a five-year deal at Old Trafford with the option for a 12-month extension.
Eriksen was a mainstay in the Man United midfield after signing on a free transfer last summer (2022).
The Denmark international racked up 44 appearances across all competitions, notching two goals and ten assists.
Mount, 24, arrives at Man United having notched 33 goals and 37 assists at boyhood club Chelsea.
Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “If I’m honest, Eriksen didn’t do very well last season.
“He seemed like he lacked the legs and just couldn’t get the ball back as much as Ten Hag wanted.
“Especially in the games against Man City – I just thought he wasn’t good enough.
“They need legs – and Casemiro, Fernandes and Mount gives you that. Mount is more mobile, can score goals – and he fits in perfectly.
“I think he’ll definitely come in for Eriksen.
“I see Mount as a number eight, rather than playing out wide. I don’t think Eriksen has done enough to stay in that side.”
