Christiansen: The way I want to play should help this Leeds first teamer

By Derek Smithson

Leeds manager Thomas Christiansen believes that the style of play he plans to bring to Elland Road should help Chris Wood improve on his impressive form from last year.

The Whites have appointed the Denmark-born 44-year-old as their new boss and he has outlined his plans for the Yorkshire giants.

He is confident that he can help Wood somehow reach another level, despite him enjoying the best season of his career last year.

The 25-year-old striker made 48 appearances across all competitions and scored an impressive 30 goals in return.

Christiansen has explained that he wants to improve the first teamer next season and feels that his style can help him.

“He was a very important player and for me he will be the same important player in the team,” Christiansen told Radio Yorkshire. “That was one of the things that I mentioned in the meeting, not that I want him to stay, it’s obvious when a man scores so many goals you want him in the squad, but how I would help him improve more than what he did.

“I know that’s difficult because he made a lot of goals, but we all want more from ourself and I believe that with the way we want to play we can help to increase in all the lines.”

Wood has managed to find a home at Elland Road after struggling to settle at the likes of Leicester, Brighton and West Brom in the past.

The New Zealand international was the Championship top scorer last year and will surely play a crucial role if Leeds are to challenge for promotion under Christiansen.

He was heavily relied upon for goals last year under Garry Monk and will hope to make a big impact once again for his side under the new boss.
