Christopher Nkunku shares Chelsea training ground update after exit confession

Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku took to social media to share a training ground update after Enzo Maresca’s recent transfer confession.

Football Insider revealed (February 2) that Man United retained an interest in Nkunku, 27, right up until the January transfer deadline but a move ultimately failed to materialise.

A swap deal between the two clubs was reported, with Alejandro Garnacho heading to Chelsea, but the United fans were less than impressed with the idea.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of Chelsea’s FA Cup clash with Brighton on Saturday (February 8), Maresca had his say on Nkunku’s future at the club.

Maresca said: “We planned since December to keep Christopher Nkunku. It was our intention. For sure now he will have bigger role. He played half an hour vs West Ham. Hopefully he can get more minutes and help us”.

Christopher set for a bigger role at Chelsea after January transfer saga

The French forward has been on the periphery at Chelsea so far this season, starting just 13 of his 30 games across all competitions, scoring 13 goals, and providing four assists in his 1237 minutes of action.

Both Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu picked up knocks in Chelsea’s 2-1 Premier League win over West Ham, meaning Nkunku is likely to be given a chance to impress against Brighton.

Football Insider revealed (February 5) that Chelsea have earmarked Nkunku for an early sale in the summer transfer window as he is set to remain as a back-up option for Maresca.

Nkunku appears to be ignoring all the noise surrounding his future at the West London club, taking to Instagram to share a training ground update ahead of their game with Brighton.

Joao Felix ended up leaving Chelsea for AC Milan for the rest of the season on transfer deadline day, a move that could have appeased Nkunku somewhat.

Maresca’s side will face Brighton for a second time after their FA Cup clash on Valentine’s Day, hoping to cement their place in the top four.
