Stan Collymore has gone on an X-rated rant after Aston Villa lost 3-1 to Norwich at Carrow Road on Saturday and has urged Steve Bruce, Tony Xia and the clubs’ fans it is time for some “tough love”.
Villa have won just one of their last five games and it is now impossible for them to catch Wolves in the Championship table.
If the Villains continue this slump down the table, there’s a chance that even a spot in the play-offs could come under threat.
Ex-Villa forward Collymore was furious after the defeat to Norwich, and hammered the playing squad on his personal Twitter account, claiming that they have been coddled too much over the course of the campaign.
“Not good enough Villa. They’ve had plenty of love and positivity this season despite a chronic lack of consistency. Time the manager, owner and fans started a bit of tough love. Pull your f*****g finger out.
Football Insider verdict
Collymore’s passion for Villa has clearly shown in his rant after the loss to Norwich and he has a point. However there should not really be anything to worry about at the moment because the West Midlands club will surely still finish inside the top six, and that is all they can do now. Fulham and Cardiff are the only ones realistically fighting for the second automatic promotion spot behind Wolves, so aiming for that now would be miles off reality. Villa should be happy to settle with fourth and hope to get this bad spell out of the way before the play-offs. It could actually be a good time to have a dip in form.
