Report: PL maestro up for sale as Tottenham and Liverpool ready summer swoop

Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure is set to be put up for sale this summer as Tottenham and Liverpool eye up a summer swoop, according to a report.

The Mirror has revealed that the Hornets star, rated at £40million, may be sold by the club as they look to balance the bank account, despite having made a £4m profit last year.

Spurs have been linked with a move for the 25-year-old for the past couple of months after the former Rennes star notched up seven goals in 32 outings from the centre of the park, and this latest report states the Lilywhites are eyeing up a summer swoop.

However, Mauricio Pochettino is said to be facing competition from the Reds, as well as north London rivals Arsenal.

The Frenchman, along with Brazilian Richarlison, have been scintillating for Watford, particularly under Marco Silva, and despite the topsy-turvy nature of the Premier League, have helped the club up to 11th in the table.

Watford are a proven selling club and after having bought him for £6m, if they can get anything like the £40m they rate Doucoure at, they will be making a more than healthy profit. With Financial Fair Play in action, clubs know the importance of making sure their finances are in order and to stay in the black the Hornets may have to keep selling, or risk having restrictions placed upon them. For Spurs, Doucoure is a top talent, but to come into the club to replace of Eric Dier? It would be difficult to see this one happening unless the England midfielder’s days at Spurs are numbered.
