'Clueless', 'All over the place' - Celtic fans destroy 25-year-old's display v FC Astana

By Harvey Byrne

Usual Celtic midfielder Nir Bitton played the full 90 minutes in the back-line in Tuesday’s Champions League qualifying clash against FC Astana – and Hoops fans on Twitter have destroyed his display.

The 25-year-old started the clash in Kazakhstan with the Hoops going in confident after earning a huge 5-0 victory in the first leg when the two met at Parkhead last season.

However, Tuesday afternoon was not to be the same script as an own goal from Kristoffer Ajer alongside efforts from Serikhan Muzhikov and a Patrick Twumasi double cancelled goals from Scott Sinclair, Olivier Ntcham and Leigh Griffiths.

Fortunately for Celtic they have still qualified for the Champions League group stage with a 8-4 victory on aggregate.

But, that did not stop a number of fans on social media tearing into players like Bitton, who played their part in Tuesday’s result.

A number of fans stated that he’s far from the quality to play in defence at Champions League level, while another went as far as to label him as “clueless.”

Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Bitton has played six games in all competitions this season with all of those appearances coming in the centre-back position.

However, it is clear that fans don’t want to see him lining out in the back four again any time soon.
