Cody Gakpo, Alexis Mac Allister react to Luis Diaz amid Liverpool showdown talks

Luis Diaz got a reaction from his Liverpool teammates on social media as celebrations continued after becoming Premier League champions.

The Reds’ last title came during the 2019/20 campaign, with Pep Guardiola’s Man City dominating the league over the previous few years, but Arne Slot took no prisoners in his first term at Anfield.

With just one needed to claim the Premier League trophy, an under-pressure Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham came to Merseyside, and even took an unexpected lead on Sunday, 27 April.

Dominic Solanke beat Alisson with a smart header before goals from Diaz, Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah, and a Destiny Udogie own goal flipped the game on its head.

Despite playing an instrumental role in the season, notching 16 goals and five assists across all competitions, Football Insider understands Liverpool are set for showdown talks over Diaz’s future.

Taking to Instagram (28 April), Diaz wrote: “Champions! A dream come true. History written with passion, hard work, and heart,” with Mac Allister simply replying: “Luchiiiiiito”.

Gakpo and Jordan Henderson also responded with love heart emojis, with Dominik Szoboszlai, Conor Bradley, Darwin Nunez, and Crystal Palace’s Daniel Munoz all liking the post.

Arne Slot preparing for squad rebuild ahead of summer transfer window

Football Insider verdict

Slot has filled the shoes left by Jurgen Klopp almost seamlessly, lifting the Premier League title quite comfortably, but supporters have been left wanting more despite the domestic success.

After the Reds were knocked out of the Champions League and FA Cup at early stages, there were some doubts over the new manager’s reign, but the positive signs are clearly there.

However, there is still a lot of work to do once the summer transfer window opens, with Slot likely to make multiple changes to adapt the squad to his style rather than continuing Klopp’s tactics.

Nunez is one of the players linked with a Liverpool exit, and so too are Diogo Jota, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Ibrahima Konate, and all will be revealed once the 2024/25 campaign comes to an end.

The most important pieces of news have been the renewal of Salah and Virgil van Dijk‘s contracts, but with the expectations so high ahead of the next season, several new signings could be made.
