Cody Gakpo and Szoboszlai react to Ibrahima Konate amid Liverpool contract drama

Ibrahima Konate got the attention of several Liverpool teammates on social media as speculation grows over his future at Anfield.

The Frenchman has created an unbreakable centre-back partnership with Virgil van Dijk, who has confirmed his future with the Reds for the next two seasons, but it is not so simple for his partner.

Keith Wyness suggested to Football Insider that Konate will be unhappy with Liverpool fans’ treatment over Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure, predicting that the defender will follow his teammate to Real Madrid.

His contract expires at the end of the 2025/26 campaign, and with no signs of a new contract being penned at Anfield, the centre-back could be ready to leave England, or so it is believed.

Ibrahima Konate continues Liverpool celebrations after Arsenal draw

Taking to Instagram (16 May), Konate wrote: “What we do,” captioning the Reds’ Guard of Honour before the 2-2 draw against Arsenal on Sunday, 11 May.

The post gained likes from Gakpo, Szoboszlai, Endo Wataru, and Curtis Jones, as well as Juventus striker, on loan from PSG, Randal Kolo Muani and Inter Milan’s Marcus Thuram.

Arne Slot to ready summer squad overhaul at Anfield

Football Insider verdict

Football Insider reported in March that no progress had been made over a new Liverpool deal for Konate, even despite him becoming an integral part of the squad this season.

The defender is unlikely to be the only player uncertain over his future heading into the summer transfer window, however, with a number of current stars linked with exits this season.

Darwin Nunez has done little to impress the new Liverpool boss, with Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz also tipped to leave Merseyside at the end of the season as Arne Slot begins to shape the squad to his liking.

Despite working with a squad built entirely by Jurgen Klopp, the Dutchman has already cruised to the Premier League title in his first season in England.

Fans have, of course, been left wanting more after being knocked out of the Champions League and FA Cup at early stages, but the positive signs are there, and things will only get better with a summer transfer window under his wings.
