Sources: Colchester United agree to sign Bradford City star Sam Hornby
Colchester have agreed a deal to sign Bradford City goalkeeper Sam Hornby, Football Insider understands.
The 26-year-old’s future at Bradford has been placed into doubt following the recent arrival of Alex Bass on loan from Portsmouth.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that League Two rivals Colchester have agreed a loan deal with a view to becoming permanent.
Bantams boss Derek Adams is willing to let Hornby leave Valley Parade and move to a fourth-tier rival.
The former Burton and Port Vale shot-stopper is under contract at Valley Parade until 2023.
He signed a two-year extension in June 2021 after his previous deal expired.
But after making 21 appearances across all competitions last term, he has turned out just eight times in 2021-22.
He has slipped further down the pecking order following the arrival of 23-year-old custodian Bass from Pompey.
This site broke news last Tuesday (25 January) that Hartlepool were lining up a move for Bantams goalkeeper and former captain Richard O’Donnell.
O’Donnell started the campaign as Bradford’s first choice between the sticks but his game time has waned in recent weeks.
Colchester have had a busy January and Hornby is set to become the ninth player to join the club in the winter window.
Goalkeeper Jake Turner meanwhile, who started the last eight in the league, returned to Newcastle United following the expiration of his loan deal.
Colchester are 22nd in League Two and have endured a number of injuries in the goalkeeper position this term.
