‘Cole Palmer didn’t milk horror tackle’ – PGMOL expert rages at Chelsea footage
Keith Hackett believes that Andy Madley failed to protect players during the recent Premier League fixture between Chelsea and Leicester City – and Cole Palmer was fortunate to avoid a serious injury.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former PGMOL chief, ex-FIFA, and Premier League referee believes Wilfred Ndidi “should have walked” after his late foul on Palmer.
The 27-year-old Leicester midfielder caught the Chelsea playmaker from behind as he ran his stoods down the back of his leg and into the Achilles.
VAR opted not to intervene in the situation and let Madley’s on-field decision stand as Ndidi was able to continue, with Palmer also being able to run off the incident to carry on in the fixture.
The Blues won the game 2-1 after goals from Nicolas Jackson and Enzo Fernandez, with Steve Cooper being sacked the following day as a result of this performance.
Wilfred Ndidi should have been sent off against Chelsea
Hackett told Football Insider, “Ndidi came in high and raked down the Achilles of the Chelsea player.
“For me, it’s a clear red.
“It’s about protecting the players.

“The Achilles is a vulnerable area, and it’s fortunate the Chelsea player didn’t milk it.
“It was a poor decision and he should have walked.”
