Cole Palmer, Jamie Gittens react to Man City star Rico Lewis amid uncertainty
Chelsea stars Cole Palmer and Jamie Gittens reacted to Rico Lewis on social media amid uncertainty over the right-back position at Man City.
The Sky Blues have been busy this summer, addressing several positions that proved problematic last term.
Rodri’s injury and the struggles of Ilkay Gundogan, Nico Gonzalez, and Bernardo Silva highlighted the need for a new central midfielder, and City reacted by signing Tijjani Reijnders.
On the left wing, Phil Foden failed to carry over his form from the 2023/24 season and Jack Grealish was ineffective and injured for much of last term, so Rayan Cherki was brought in to fill that gap.
However, one position that is yet to be addressed is right-back. Kyle Walker has joined Burnley after spending the latter half of last season on loan at AC Milan.
That would seemingly mean that Lewis has a free shot at the position, but Pep Guardiola has yet to show full faith in the England international, and it appears that City’s next acquisition will be a player to fill that spot in the Spaniard’s starting XI.

Ahead of the new season, Lewis shared a plethora of photos on Instagram from his summer break.
The post was liked by former City academy teammates Palmer and Gittens, both of whom are now plying their trade with Premier League rivals Chelsea.
Man City linked with move for new right-back
Football Insider Verdict
Mick Brown told Football Insider exclusively on 1 July that Man City will step up their efforts to sign Tino Livramento this summer.
The young defender excelled at the Under-21 European Championships this summer as England triumphed over Germany to claim victory in the tournament.
Livramento is a highly coveted talent and was a major part of Newcastle’s success last season.
Whilst Lewis is himself a highly regarded player, Guardiola has never placed his full faith in the defender and preferred Matheus Nunes at right-back for much of the 2024/25 campaign.
If City do move for Livramento, it would raise question marks over the 20-year-old’s future at the Etihad, as he would become the third-choice right-back, and with the World Cup just a year away, Lewis could look to move on in a bid to earn consistent first-team minutes, and a place in Thomas Tuchel’s squad in North America.
