Cole Palmer sends two-word message to Morgan Rogers amid Chelsea meltdown

Cole Palmer sent a two-word message to Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers after their 2-2 draw with Brighton on Monday night (December 30).

The 22-year-old played the full 90 minutes, scoring Villa’s second goal as they were unable to bag a win over Fabian Hurzeler’s out-of-form Brighton.

Simon Adingra opened the scoring for the visitors after just 12 minutes, pouncing on a loose ball in the Villa penalty area before working it onto his right foot and slot past Emiliano Martinez.

Rogers played a pivotal role in the equaliser, going down after Joao Pedro’s tackle to win a penalty, allowing Ollie Watkins to score from the spot.

Villa started the second half lightning-fast. Rogers took the ball down with his chest before scoring past Bart Verbruggen on the half-volley.

Unai Emery’s side looked set to secure all three points but Tariq Lamptey had other ideas, scoring in the 81st minute.

Rogers has been key for Aston Villa so far this season, starting all 25 of his games across all competitions, scoring six goals, and providing four assists in his 2081 minutes of action.

Palmer, 22, didn’t have as successful a night as his former teammate with Chelsea losing 2-0 to Kieran McKenna’s struggling Ipswich side.

Fellow Man City academy graduate Liam Delap opened the scoring from the spot after winning a controversial penalty before Omari Hutchinson secured all three points.

It was a second consecutive defeat for Chelsea to put a huge dent in their league title hopes.

The Chelsea man took time after the game to check in on his friend and former teammate, taking to Instagram to respond to his most recent post, saying: “Big Breeze.”

Villa will host relegation-threatened Leicester City in their first game of 2025 as they seek to continue their march towards European qualification.

They will then face West Ham in their first FA Cup game of the season, a trophy Emery may well have his eye on.
