Collymore: Klopp may keep this Liverpool outcast next month after horror show

By Amir Mir

Stan Collymore believes Jurgen Klopp may be thinking about keeping Liverpool outcast Mahmudou Sakho.

Broadcaster Collymore made the comments after his former side were beaten 4-3 at Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds, who were leading the Premier League fixture 3-1 with 15 minutes to go, threw away a two goal lead with Chelsea loanee Nathan Ake scoring an injury-time winner.

Liverpool’s defensive fragilities were exposed once again with centre-back duo Lucas and Dejan Lovren at the heart of the club’s defence.

Under Klopp, the Merseyside club have kept just four clean sheets in 23 away games, conceding 38 goals – this season they have shipped 18 goals in 14 league games.

Former Premier League striker Collymore was critical of their defending as he explained why Sakho could help Klopp’s defensive problems.

“As for the central defensive two, I just wonder if Jurgen may be thinking of not yet getting rid of Sakho you know,” Collymore wrote in his Boyle Sports column.

“Great ball player he may not be but he’s one of the top two or three in box reactive defenders in the league and again, maybe if he were on duty today, his leadership and “ye shall not pass” attitude may have made a difference.”

France international Sakho has not featured for Liverpool this season, with Klopp clearly stating that he has no hope of salvaging his career in Merseyside.

The 26-year-old last featured for the Reds in April, where he was banned and then cleared for failing a drugs test.

Sakho was then part of Klopp’s pre-season tour of the United States in the summer, but the German sent him home due to disciplinary issues.

Along with Lovren and Lucas, Klopp has used summer signing duo Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan at centre-half.
