Collymore: This is how Bruce will get the best out of Aston Villa signing
By Derek Smithson
Stan Collymore believes that Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce is planning on using a three-man defence in the upcoming season to utilise summer singing John Terry.
The 36-year-old recently joined the Midlands club following his departure from Chelsea, where he cemented his position as a club legend after 690 appearances for them.
However, the centre-back is reaching the latter stages of his career and has lost a yard of pace to his game.
The 78-time capped England international has dropped down to the Championship for the first time in his career and has already been named the Villa club captain.
Collymore believes that Bruce would look to use Terry as part of a back three and feels another new arrival, Ahmed Elmohamady, will play as a wing-back in the system.
“Seems like Steve Bruce will play his three central defenders (gets best out of John Terry’s legs), and wing backs who know the job. Elmohamady proven at this level,” Collymore wrote on his personal Twitter account.
Terry is regarded as one of the best defenders in the Premier League era and helped Chelsea win five top-flight titles at Stamford Bridge.
The defender has now moved to Villa to experience regular first-team football and will competing alongside the likes of Nathan Baker, James Chester and Tommy Elphick for a starting position.
In other Aston Villa news, they should rival Birmingham for winger Aaron Lennon.
