Confirmed: Key defender ruled out of Tottenham v West Brom clash

By Amir Mir

Tony Pulis has confirmed that Jonny Evans will miss West Brom’s clash with Tottenham on Saturday afternoon.

The 29-year-old centre-back is a key figure for the Baggies defensive backline as he has helped them into the top half of the Premier League table.

Evans went off injured in the first half during their last league fixture as his side beat Hull City 3-1 at the Hawthorns.

They now travel to White Hart Lane at the weekend end without the experienced player as Pulis confirmed the news on the club’s official Twitter account.

Right-back Nyom replaced Evans in that game against the Tigers as Pulis opted to switch to a back three.

The former Stoke City man could do the same against Spurs or pick the experience of Jonas Olsson.

The Midlands side lost their last game when Championship outfit Derby knocked them out of the FA Cup – Olsson and Gareth McAuley were the centre-backs for that game.

Pulis’ side will have the task of overcoming a Tottenham team that is chasing the title after their win against league leaders Chelsea prior to the FA Cup games.

England international Dele Alli has, in particular, been in fine form, scoring six goals in his last three league games.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are seven points adrift of Antonio Conte’s men and will be looking to close that gap.

In other Tottenham team news, Kyle Walker has revealed that this is the most important man at Spurs.
