Confirmed: Leeds appoint crucial new member of Christiansen backroom staff
By Danny Wright
Leeds have confirmed the appointment of Paul Butler as assistant head coach.
The Whites announced on their official website on Thursday morning that the 31-year-old has agreed to join Thomas Christiansen’s new-look backroom staff at Elland Road.
The club’s statement also confirmed that Butler had already hooked up with the Leeds squad in their pre-season training camp in Austria.
He joins United having had spells in the coaching set-up at Fulham and Oldham, where he worked alongside former Leeds striker Paul Dickov.
Christiansen’s crucial right-hand man then had stints with Blackpool, Doncaster and Derby.
Butler will be able to experience his first taste of Leeds football as their official assistant head coach on Thursday when they take on Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach in a friendly.
It has been a very busy months of change for the Yorkshire giants, which all started in May when Andrea Radrizzani earned sole ownership of the club.
Since then the Italian business has been dealt with the task of replacing Garry Monk, who jumped ship just two days after Radrizzani took over the club.
Christiansen was announced as Monk’s successor and he has since been extremely busy in the transfer market, bringing in players like Vurnon Anita, Mateusz Klich and Ezgjan Alioka to help boost the Whites’ chances of promotion next season.
In other Leeds news, Christiansen has highlighted the biggest negative from the Whites’ last match.
