Leeds bombshell: Midfield trio ruled out of clash against Reading

By Alex Stevens

Leeds midfield trio Eunan O’Kane, Pablo Hernandez and Kalvin Phillips have been ruled out of the team’s clash against Reading on Tuesday night.

Manager Garry Monk revealed at a media briefing on Monday afternoon that the first team regulars will not play any part in the Championship fixture at Elland Road.

Phillips will serve a one-match suspension incurred in Friday’s 2-0 league defeat to Brighton, while Kane and Hernandez have not recovered from groin and hamstring injuries respectively.

Monk delivered the bombshell news that O’Kane and Hernandez are still fit, as quoted by the Leeds official Twitter account.

O’Kane has missed Leeds’ last two matches after breaking down with a groin problem in the club’s 2-0 League Cup defeat to Premier League giants Liverpool.

Hernandez has been absent for the club’s last five matches after suffering a hamstring injury in the closing stages of the league triumph against Norwich on 5 November.

Monk is short of central midfield options against Reading on Tuesday, as Ronaldo Vieira is the only member of his first choice quartet in that position who is available and match fit.

Skipper Liam Bridcutt is on the comeback trail but has been out for three months with a broken foot.

In other Leeds team news, these are the first two signings that incoming new owner Andrea Radrizzani will make in the January transfer window.
