Confirmed line-ups: Tottenham omit prolific attacker for Everton clash

By London correspondent Tony Hughes

Vincent Janssen has been omitted from the Tottenham team for their Premier League opener against Everton on Saturday.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino has stuck with the majority of the side that were regulars at the end of last season as the team finished third in the Premier League.

New signing Janssen, who was a prolific scorer in the Dutch league last season, is on the substitute’s bench as Pochettino has selected Harry Kane as the lone striker supported by attacking midfield trio Erik Lamela, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen.

Victor Wanyama makes his competitive Spurs bow as he starts alongside Eric Dier in central midfield in the absence of the suspended Mousa Dembele.

At the back, Pochettino sticks with his favoured back four of last season, with Jan Vertonghen starting less than two months after suffering ankle ligament duty while playing for Belgium at Euro 2016.
