Confirmed: Reported Everton target seals £1.1m summer transfer after clause triggered

By Harvey Byrne

Championship club Huddersfield have confirmed the signing of reported Everton target Elias Kachunga.

The Daily Mirror claimed in February that the 24-year-old attacker was a target for the Toffees alongside Middlesbrough and Watford.

However, the Yorkshire club announced on their official Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon that they had agreed the permanent transfer of Kachunga from Ingolstadt for £1.1million after triggering a clause.

The deal will now become permanent on 1 July after his loan contract reaches it’s end.

Kachunga has been a big success in England since joining from the Bundesliga in the summer.

Usually playing as a right-winger the former Germany Under-21 international has returned an impressive 11 goals and four assists in 40 outings for David Wagner’s side.

He has been key to Huddersfield’s third placing in the Championship table and he could still line-up on the opposition team at Goodison Park next season.

It is assumed that Everton will now turn their attentions to alternative targets, while they still have Ademola Lookman, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Kevin Mirallas and Enner Valencia as possible wide options.

Football Insider verdict:

Kachunga is clearly a talented player, but he has not yet been tested in England’s top-flight and it is still uncertain as to whether he would have been good enough for Everton. The Toffees will certainly need better wide options than the likes of Mirallas and Valencia if they want to break into the top six of England, but Kachunga was not necessarily the player who would guarantee them of doing so. Another winger is a must for Ronald Koeman in the next transfer window and he must surely have a list of targets he ready for the summer.
